A Timely Reminder That Lancaster’s Police Have Been Mostly White, Too.

Someone at the Lancaster city police department posted this on their official Facebook page this morning:

Lancaster PA Police

The timing of this post is unfortunate, as most of us have our attention on the uprising in Ferguson, Missouri, where 94% of the police force is white despite 64% of the residents being black, and 100% of the police force in this photo are white.

Sometimes current events are a more important timing factor than that it’s “throwback Thursday” on Facebook. This post isn’t insensitive in itself, but it’s very out of touch. Given its timing, I maintain that it is salt in our country’s open wound.

Lancaster County and the Cultural Creatives

This is Lancaster city resident Daniel Klotz's blog about Lancaster County and what makes it an interesting place. Primary topics are the arts, civic life, and news analysis.
